Mages in WoW PvP Battlegrounds
Mages can play a variety of roles in the battlegrounds to earn good honor points. In Warsong Gulch battleground, they can be good on defence since they can polymorph or use a frost spell on the flag carrier or anyone on the opposing team to slow them down so the rest of your group can catch up and kill them. BG mages can also be instrumental in group brawls since they can AoE and deal multiple the damage by hitting several targets at once. On WSG offence, the mage can Frost Nova the opposing base while his team gets the flag which can make the getaway much easier. He can also polymorph anyone particularly troublesome. Carrying the flag is a last resort role for the PvP mage, since his low armor will make it hard for him to get all the way to his base, even with blink and his crowd control abilities. The mage will definitely need some PvP armor from the honor rewards if he ever wants to attempt this feat.
In Arathi Basin, Mages can use their instant spells to interrupt the enemy when they try to claim a resource flag. Because AB mages find it hard to survive long alone against a group, he should fight in groups and stay at the edge of the battle out of melee range. Focus fire on someone already getting attacked to help kill them faster. But be careful about dealing a lot of damage to any one target for too long from the outset of battle. Allow them to focus on another target first, lest they target you back. One thing you can do to improve your survivability and be more effective in BGs is to get better mage PvP gear, and try to get as much stamina, intellect, and damage as possible with better mage PvP weapons.
Alterac Valley is the mage’s battleground, where the large group battle style allows the battleground mage to be evasive and do a great deal of damage from a safe distance. The AV mage literally shines when he becomes an AoE bomb in a group of enemies. They can also be nice and make food and water for your BG teammates.
